19th Century Large Majolica Palissy Fish Wall Platter Thomas Sergent

About the Item

19th century large Palissy wall platter a large catshark on the center surrounded by four fishs, two frogs, two crawfishs, two lizards, shells and different greens plants on a brown background signed Thomas Sergent. Thomas Victor Sergent was an active member of the School of Paris with others ceramists he made platters and other several others pieces like vases, tobacco jars, jardinières. He participated at several International exhibitions (London, Vienna, Amsterdam, and Paris). The School of Paris is composed by makers as Victor Barbizet, Francois Maurice, Thomas Sergent, Georges Pull, it's a group of ceramists who produced Palissy pieces at the end of 19th century. Reference / page 136 "Palissy ware" of M. Katz, a similar platter by the size and brown background.
