18th Century Dutch Genre Painting with Mother and Children
About the Item
18th Century Dutch genre painting with grandparents seated side by side, an oil on wooden panel miniature interior scene with elderly man and woman seated beside each other, a mahogany tea table with cabriole legs (dating to circa 1760) by their side, the room dimly illuminated by light coming in through window and perhaps a slight rosy glow from an unseen hearth, unsigned. The painting has the shadowy moodiness so excelled by the Dutch artists of the period. We have listed a second painting by the same hand.
The painting appears in very good condition, with just the surface scuffs expected in a painting of this age, and a "wrinkle" to the varnish in the lower left. It has not been examined under a black light. mounted in a recent frame with paper backing.
