Condition: The painting is in overall very good and sound condition. We have measured to exclude the unpainted white edges.
Artist: Norman Arthur Olley was born in 1908 to a British Army family stationed in Lucknow, Bengal India. His mother died there in 1911, and his father in 1936.
Norman married in Gravesend Kent in 1937, and at the beginning of the war in 1939 he was an aircraft sheet metal worker.
He and his wife to Surrey in the late 1940's -early 1950's where he was a long term member of the Thames Valley Arts Club and where he regularly exhibited his work. In 1951 his painting "View from Richmond Park" was held in high regard at a very well attended exhibition in Esher, Surrey.
The East Molesey area was one of his favourite areas to paint, a 1953 Art...

The encroaching sea eventually got so close that the lighthouse had to go. Rather than simply let it fall into the sea, in July 2020 the entire building began to be carefully dismantled so as not to have any impact on the surrounding sensitive environment. The Orford Ness Lighthouse Trust plan at that time was to remove the lantern room as well as other original features and artefacts with a view to one day creating a lighthouse memorial of some sort on the other side of the Ness, facing Orford town’s quay.

ORFORD NESS
Orford Ness is an internationally important site for nature conservation and a designated National Nature Reserve. It is a rare and delicate landscape, consisting of shingle ridges and valleys, deposited over centuries by the sea. 20% of Europe's vegetated shingle is found on Orford Ness.
Once a former World War One and World War Two Airfield, the land is now a rich grazing marsh, providing home to birds, deer and rare-breed sheep. It is one of the few sites in the UK with purpose-built facilities for the testing of components of nuclear weapons. Comprising of six 'labs', which now form impressive backdrops on the shingle and the Black Beacon erected in 1928 to house an experimental rotating-loop navigation beacon.
GLYNN THOMAS
Glynn Thomas was born in Cambridge 1946. He studied at the Cambridge School of Art 1962-67, specialising in illustration and printmaking; taught printmaking at the Ipswich School of Art 1967-79, and is now a full-time artist living in Suffolk.
He has illustrated a number of books. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and at the Society’s 1983 annual exhibition his etching ‘Honfleur’, was awarded the Davys’ prize for the best print. In addition, his work has been included in the Houses of Parliament art collection. One man exhibitions include the Dominion Centre Toronto, the John Russell Gallery, Ipswich, Printworks and the Minories, Colchester, the New Ashgate Gallery Farnham, the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, the Lyric Hammersmith, and the Barbican Centre London. Frederick George Cotman (14 August 1850 Ipswich–1920) was an English painter of landscapes, portraits and interiors and a member of the Norwich School of painters
Frederick was born into the Cotman family of artists. His parents were Henry Edmund Cotman (1802–1871), formerly a Norwich silk merchant and his wife Maria Taylor (1813–1895). His elder brothers, Henry Edmund Cotman (1844–1914), and Thomas Cotman (1847–1925) were born in London before the family moved to Ipswich.
