About the Item
A collection of 18 framed prints from engravings of musical instruments from the book by Gabinetto Armonico, which was published in 1722. The book had a total of 150 instruments. The plates were engraved by a Flemish artist working in Italy, Arnold van Westerhout (1651-1729.) The author Filippo Buonanni (Italian, 1638–1725) and Printer Giorgio Placho (Italian, 18th century) published the engravings in a book called Gabinetto Armonico Pieno d' Instromen ti Sonori (Harmonic Cabinet full of sound instruments.) It was dedicated to Saint David by Father Filippo Bonanni in Rome at the San Marco Basilica in 1722. An inexpensive way to fill a large space.
The prints are double matted with hand-drawn and marbleized trim on an ivory mat layered with a black mat liner. They are framed in a painted and carved wooden frame with flowers and scrolls. The frames vary in color. Attached to the back of each print is a copy of Gabinetto Armonico's cover page. Each frame has hanging hardware.
