Flotte d'Otahiti assembled at Oparee. Colored engraving. Robert Benard (active 1750-1785), 1778. Hand-colored engraving from the series “The Voyages of Captain Cook”, which makes number 34 of said series (“Voyage das L'Hemisphere Austral, et autour du Monde, fait sur les Vaisseaux de Roi, L, Aventure & la Resolutio. ” Ecrit par Jacques Cook, Commedant de la Resolution. 1778 Volume II, plate 34), and was made by Robert Bénard (active 1750-1785), who was the first to make engravings based on the sketches, drawings and paintings of places that William Hodges made while accompanying Cook on his second voyage (1772-1775).
