Leonard Edmondson (1916-2002) original color aquatint. Titled in pencil lower centre "Blackbird". Edition size in pencil lower left: 20/50. Pencil Signed Lower right: Edmondson, circa 1950s. Image measures: 11 ½" H x 9 3/4" W. Unframed. Archivally matted. Leonard Edmondson was an abstract Expressionist painter and printmaker of colored etchings as well as an art educator. He spent his career in California where he served as President of the California Watercolor Society and of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society. He was also a member of the San Francisco Art Association and the Los Angeles Art Association. Leonard Edmondson was born in Sacramento, California and studied at the University of California, Berkeley where he earned a Master's Degree in 1942. By 1947, he was on the faculty at Pasadena City College and began exhibiting. Major museums including the Metropolitan, Brooklyn and Museum of Modern Art purchased his work. Edmondson was an influential teacher, especially of printmaking, which he taught at Otis Art Institute and the California State Unviersity in Los Angeles as well as at Pasadena City College.
