Late 17th Century French Aubusson Tapestry

About the Item

A French Aubusson Biblical tapestry from the late 17th century, depicting King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba seated on a throne at center, flanked on either side by attendants, to the right by a further royal pair and to the left by a visiting delegation of Moors, with a flaming altar in the foreground along with a vase and a sculpture of four maidens. This scene depicts the Queen of Sheba visiting Solomon, the third King of the united Israel, to satisfy her curiosity about the tales she had heard about the King’s wisdom and magnificence. Bringing gifts of spices, gold, and precious stones, she was rewarded with an audience with the king, and a display of his wisdom and wealth. Enclosed by a border of foliate sprays and scallop-shells. Wool with silk inlay. Measures: 9’4” H x 13’2” W Hanging: The tapestry comes ready for hanging, with linen backing and a strip of hook and loop tape at the top end, which can be connected to the opposite side of the supplied hook and loop tape, which could be tacked to your wall.
