Antique Georgian Large Cut Steel Arrow Brooch

About the Item

A film star, as well as a statement of style, this dramatic Georgian Cut Steel Arrow Brooch is five inches in length and was shown being pinned on Meg in the movie the Age of Innocence, by Edith Wharton, as Meg's grandmother, the family matriarch says "this will become a family heirloom". It was a famous piece of jewelry from the creation of the genre and continued to be fabulous to this day. Our brooch is in perfect condition back and front. The tiniest steel studs are used in the early 1800's, when there was no electricity. All steel bits are hand faceted like diamonds of the period, hand polished and hand set. It was usually a woman who did this work as women's hands are small. The method was to first make the form of metal and then punch tiny holes in that base in which to set rivets. The cut steel "diamonds" were then riveted in place artistically as you will agree. The tail of the arrow is scalloped and made in 4 sections. There are a few larger mirrored steel pieces in it for accent. This is a fabulous example of fine cut steel jewelry of the early 19th century. A collector will treasure it as an heirloom once again. A fashion forward woman will feel the same. After all, it is a star. Excellent Condition. English Origin.
