A square cut amethyst, pavé-set diamond, and 18 karat white gold pendant, on an 18 karat white gold torque, by Andrew Grima, made in 2002. The amethyst weighs approximately 35.00 carats, and the diamonds weigh approximately 5.30 carats. The pendant of this necklace measures 3"L x 2.4"W and the torque has a circumference of approximately 16.5". Stamped Grima, 750, makers mark AG ltd, London hallmarks dated with the letter "c" for 2002. This is a beautiful and very modern neckpiece in which Grima's ease with setting diamonds in an organic modernist setting, geometric ornamentation and elegance in design is clearly evident.The neckpiece is also eminently wearable - dressing up less formal attire while holding its own among the stars. Andrew Grima was a renowned, avant-garde London jewelers who transformed the jewelry scene of the 1960s and 1970s in England. He celebrated form and color as an artist or an architect might; he emphasized untraditional materials, a wide range of stones from gems to hardstones, and texturing yellow gold in new, modern ways. His clients included members of the British royal family, as well as British and Hollywood celebrities of the time. Grima was the first and only jeweler to win the Duke of Edinburgh Prize for Elegant Design, he received the Queen's Award and held a Royal Warrant in 1970. He won numerous awards and his jewelry may be found in private collections, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Goldsmiths' Company. This necklace was exhibited in "London Originals: The Jeweler's Art in Radical Times", at Wright and Mahnaz Collection in 2018. It is included in the "London Originals" catalog with images and scholarly essays on the jewelry movement in 1960s and 1970s London, available at Mahnaz Collection.
