About the Item
One of a kind 20.5 carat Aquamarine set in 22k yellow gold. This piece was made by master craftsmen using an ancient gold technique called 'jail work.' Jali work originated in Rajasthan, India and was originally adopted for the stonework of buildings during the Mughal era. Patterns are drawing into the gold and cut out by goldsmiths, then carefully cleaned using a floss like thread, The pattern for this piece comes is ocean waves and the shadows cast against the gemstone. This ring is one-of-a-kind.
Ancient sailors believed that mermaid tails were made of aquamarine. The gem is considered a lucky stone that brings good fortune and harmony to the wearer. It is said that when the stone is held underwater, it seems to completely disappear.

Ico & the Bird Fine Jewelry
Ico & the Bird Fine Jewelry was founded by designer Juliana Domenico (’Ico’) Carr and inspired by her world travels, searching for the most beautiful and unique gemstones to incorporate into her designs. Gemstones have always been a passion for the designer. She spent the first five years of her life in Brazil, a country known for some of the worlds’ most striking and rare stones, and her earliest memories were of playing with giant, loose aquamarines in her mother’s jewelry box and arranging them into designs. Working primarily in 22k matte gold and hand-picked gemstones, Juliana works with master craftsmen from around the world employing ancient gold smithing techniques in the creation of singular pieces that will be treasured for generations. Juliana holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from The George Washington University. She also holds a Graduate Gemology (GG) degree from The Gemological Institute of America and Graduate Fine Arts from UCLA.
