About

A famous Daché maxim: "Glamour is what makes a man ask for your telephone number. But it also is what makes a woman ask for the name of your dressmaker."

This delightful hat with the Dachettes' by Lilly Daché label is a special find for the serious collector. To find the original hat box with the hat is unheard of! The label dates this turban hat to the late 1950's. Interior measurement is 21" on the inner brim. The turban is fashioned from creamy soft silk velvet which is jauntily wrapped on the bias to achieve the desired shape.

Lilly Daché was among the most innovative milliners of the 20th century. Before emigrating to New York in 1924, she apprenticed under famed French milliner Caroline Reboux.

Daché advanced quickly from millinery sales at Macy's to opening her own shop in the same year. By 1937 there was a Lily Daché millinery empire. Her 7-story building housed a boutique as well as manufacturing facilities for her hats, pocketbooks, and shoes.
