1920s Metallic Thread on Silk Flapper Dress
Stunning metallic thread embroidered flapper on a backdrop of silk netting and silk taffeta strips. A base of silk netting has applied strips of black silk taffeta and then a dramatic and intricate design of proper metallic lame threading has been stitched from top to bottom in the most dramatic fashion! Its a masterpiece of pattern and design. The bodice is somewhat fitted and its low drop waist emphasized by the angular pattern. The skirting swoops out from the hip with over-lapped edges at each side creating the illusion of panniers. Typical of the detail oriented period - even the edges that are hidden under the side flaps are edged with threading! Truly a fantastic piece!
Bust: 17" from side seam to side seam
Waist: 16" Bust: 15.5" from side seam to side seam
Total length: 41" from shoulder to bottom hem
The dress is unlined and slips over the head to wear. The netting and silk are sound and wearable with only a couple of tiny breaks. Minor loss of thread at the edge around the arm from wear but again it is sound and wearable with a well done older repair. On a piece this age and of this detail these add to the overall patina and do not deter and it is priced accordingly. It should be cleaned only on the recommendation of your trusted cleaner when cleaned again in the future.
