Elegant fashion scarf in brocaded silk - England, manufactory of Spitalfield around 1820. Seven boteh in bouquets of naturalistic flowers constitute each end of this scarf with ivory silk serge background. On the sides presence of the original edges of the weaving loom. Stems in bells, sunflowers and friezes of daisies in saturated colors salmon, mauve, pale pink, olive green, white and sky-blue. Small fringes of origin at both ends. Excellent condition of color and conservation
Dimensions: 266 x 66 cm and 2 cm of fringes
Dating back to the Regency period, this type of English-made scarf directly competed with Lyon's production. In fashion between 1795 and 1830, especially under the First Empire, the engravings of fashion often illustrate this type of scarf of a very neoclassical taste. Here European flowers take precedence over the Indian decor.
Clean silk serge, very solid without hole .... Note four small halos at the end of a border. Otherwise excellent condition.
