About the Item

Rare 1890s women's cream shaggy mohair and wool winter over coat. Complete your Victorian wardrobe with a winter coat that is very unique! The sleeves and coat is made from long shaggy wool back mohair fabric, it is made to mimic ermine tails down to the black at the collar and cuffs. The coat also has cream wool quilted panels that are inset at the front and back that create an interesting design. The coat has a wool cape at the shoulders. There are 2 sleeves on each side, the outer sleeve is wide done in the shaggy mohair with a shaped, quilted wool cuff. The inner sleeve is cream wool, the lower sleeve has a shaped area before the cuff witch is wool and mohair, all this for warmth, this coat is from the days of no central heating. The coat is trimmed with matte gold buttons in medium and small sizes, there are two missing. Fully lined in off white silk satin, the facings are black ribbon covered lace. The lining is in very good condition with only one small area on the shoulder back interior, the fabric is strong and wearable. Closes at the front with loop and gold buttons, the loops are worn, the top loop needs to be attached on one end. It's an amazing example of the Victorian era and worthy of any collection.
