1970's Bob Mackie Pink Pleated Silk-Chiffon Goddess Backless Maxi Gown

Bob Mackie began his career as a Hollywood costuming sketch artist, working for both Edith Head and Jean Louis. While working with designer Ray Aghayan, Mackie soon began creating evening clothing for the divas who would make him a household name- most notably Carol Burnett, Diana Ross and Cher. Bob Mackie/Ray Aghayan pieces are rare, as they were only made for a few years in the late 1970's. This breathtaking peach-pink goddess gown is a perfect example of their genius. The entire dress is fashioned from Fortuny-like pleating in silk-chiffon. The flattering bodice is a ruffle-neck grecian criss-cross rope design. I love the seductive backless surprise! The yards and yards of flowing silk-chiffon that finish off this garment create a beautiful ethereal vibe. I totally see this gown gliding down the red carpet.
