Mallinson's National Park Series Glacier Bay Alaska Pattern Dress, 1920s

The American silk manufacturer H.R.Mallinson & Co. designed a series of twelve patterns commemorating the American National Parks in 1926. This pattern is believed to be Glacier Bay National Monument in Alaska. The design depicts mountain glaciers, the bay, boats, airplanes, penguins and buildings. A dress maker designed the classic late 1920's cardigan style jacket trimmed in navy blue silk worn over a sleeveless dress with a cream dropped waist top and a pleated skirt in the matching Mallinson print. The belt shown is not original to the dress. There is a small area of dye transfer on the lower back of the jacket and a faint mark on the back of the dress bodice, otherwise it is in excellent condition. Other examples of the Park prints in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum can be seen on their website.
