About

Geoffrey Beene, American master. Known as "a designer's designer" Geoffrey Beene had a quiet career which still to this day influences the world's top designers, most famously Tom Ford and Alber Elbaz (his protege) This piece dates from later in his long career spanning the 1960s to the early aughts. Collectors and museum officials alike will tell you even with a label it is very tricky to date his work. That is the credit to a designer who's work was both revolutionary as well as timeless. Trained as a surgeon every piece he created had a mastery of line with a strong understanding of the body. This sublimely architectural design is built on rigid geometry yet falls and flatters in the most beautiful of ways. Just as Vionnet said an era earlier "One should see the woman first and the dress second"
