Vintage 1930's Cartwright Ivory Striped Silk Rayon Cut-Out Maxi Dress & Jacket

About the Item

The vibrant rainbow-stripe used on this ivory silk rayon 1930's "Cartwright" designer dress ensemble has a whimsical allure that I find irresistible. The sleeveless bodice has a flirty middle cut out while the backside has a chic criss-cross. The mock-blouse design ends at a high-waist, where it breaks into a sculpted full-length skirt. The eight-panel piece work to create the skirting in particular is quite extraordinary. The stylized charm of the matching wide-cuff jacket makes it a statement piece in it's own right. Just look at the detailed back pleated! This figure flattering ensemble accentuates the bust, skims the hip and perfectly captures that causal "Old Hollywood" starlet style. It is very rare to find 1930's dress sets that, through time, stay together. Measurements Dress Bust: 32-33 inches Waist: 23 inches Hips: 34 inches Total Length:57 inches Jacket Sleeve Length: 19 inches Total Length: 27 inches This 1930's Cartwright maxi day dress ensemble is in wearable condition and presents beautifully. Garment is not lined and closes with hand-set metal snaps and hooks. Signs of wear include watermark looking spots to the front skirt and small yellow spots to the back jacket. Please message for more detail pictures. This ensemble is over 90 years old and is truly stunning.

Iconic 1996 Madonna 'Evita' Film-Worn Beaded Ivory Silk Couture Archival Gown
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Own a major slice of celebrity and film history. Madonna wore this extraordinary ivory beaded couture gown for her portrayal of Eva Perón in the unforgettable 1996 film "Evita". Madonna campaigned to play the role of Evita and used her popstar status to acquire it. Many other actresses were considered to play the role such as Elaine Paige, Liza Minnelli, Cher and Meryl Streep. The film was a huge success for Madonna, who up until this time had not fared well in her acting exploits. Madonna even won a Best Actress Golden Globe Award for her performance as the First Lady of Argentina. Madonna wears this gorgeous gown in the scenes at the Inaugural Ball as she dances and movingly sings the song, "High Flying, Adored." The fabric itself is a masterpiece; high quality silk satin that has been heavily adorned with hand set red jewels, pearls, rhinestones and glass beads. I love the chic cut-out neckline which rests on the collarbone and scoops low in the back. The gown flows into an hourglass nipped waist where it breaks into a unique zig-zag design. The piece work to create the skirting in particular is extraordinary. The yard and yards of luxurious silk satin personify the feminine ideal in clothing. We photographed the garment with and without a petticoat so you can see the true fullness. Not only was this gown an iconic look for the character but Madonna was also featured in the October 1996 issue of Vogue magazine wearing this gown. The gown was originally made for the actress Carol Lawrence and then worn by actress Daryl Hannah while accompanying John F. Kennedy, Jr. to meet the Queen of England. We were thrilled to find a picture of this meeting as well. With Madonna worn garments fetching extremely high prices at auction (her 'Desperately Seeking Susan...

1920's Martha Weathered Couture Pastel Silk Rosettes Filet Lace Flapper Dress
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
A breathtaking museum quality bridal dance dress dating back to the mid-1920's. Two layers are cleverly designed to complement each other; a fine filet-lace outer layer with a foliate design over an ecru silk-crepe slip layer embroidered with pastel silk-ribbon rosettes. The rosettes are positioned under the filet-lace design so that they appear to be the blooms of the foliate in the lace! The overall effect is quite spectacular, and the dress has survived beautifully over the years. A small designer label in the interior reading "Weathered Misses Shop Chicago", which was the one shop in Chicago able to import French couture. The original owner of the garment said the shop was able to do this by selecting the couture designs overseas. After making their selections, the patterns and materials would be shipped over for fabrication in their own workrooms, allowed them to sidestep the hefty import tax on already completed couture models. The design and construction are identity to Callot Soeurs aesthetic who was known for working with wealth American clients. A rare piece of ethereal fashion history that will become a favorite in your collection. Measurements Bust: 32-33 inches Waist: 28 inches Hips: 40 inches Total Length: 44 inches This Callot Soeurs attributed dress from Martha Weathered...
