Vintage Norwegian Bunad Handmade Traditional Women's Folk Embroidered Dress
About the Item
Vintage Norwegian Bunad, handmade traditional women's folk embroidered wool dress or jumper dress. Black mid-weight wool dress/jumper is beautifully hand embroidered with brightly coloured flowers scattered throughout. The embroidery is done in a single strand of wool thread.
Pull over or step in the dress has a shaped neckline and wide shoulder straps, it closes at the front with hook & eyes. The bodice back features a large traditional embroidered motif. There is a wide waist band which sits above the natural waist line, that closes at the front with hidden hooks & eyes. The bodice is lined in pale green linen cambric. The long skirt is done with open pleats, the skirt is unlined. The bodice has been taken in and let out previously, this is only seen from the inside. This special piece has been handed down & carefully cared for. Traditionally worn for special occasions, Norwegians wear their bunad on the 17th of May, Norway's Constitution Day, and events like weddings, christening and confirmation.
