About

This is an absolutely mind blowing gown from the 1920s. A true product of the gilded Jazz Age, the gown is constructed of silver silk lamé, silver lamé lace, and the most amazing of all a delicate beaded handmade lace net. These materials are perfectly arranged according to art deco aesthetics, with beautiful curves and fluted petal shapes flowing together around the form. The metallic silk which makes up the base of the gown is gathered at the dropped waistline, which falls elegantly around the hips. The extreme fineness of the fabric allows it to flatter the body's shape even with the dropped waist, skimming the bust and hips and fluttering around the legs. The lace gilds the torso in lovely curves, accenting the hips and drawing the eye up and down the figure dotted along its edges with crystals. The most delicate and masterfully constructed part of this gown is the handmade lace net, which is formed in scalloped curves at the hem and in a border around the neckline. Beautiful swirling designs are worked into the lace, picked out with tiny glass seed beads lined in silver. Found in Paris this incredible gown was made for the glittering galas of the Roaring Twenties, and bears both the effortless grace and the exuberance of that age in its design.
