About

I am thrilled to have acquired this iconic Mermaid Gown designed by Norman Norell in the late 1960's or very early 1970's. A few years ago I listed a small collection of these dresses and sold several to the Metropolitan Museum. This dress is definitely worthy of museum consideration, it is in excellent condition and still retains the original hang tag and small package of extra sequins. In the late 1960's these dresses retailed for $3000.00 to $4000.00 each and were the most expensive dresses in America. All of these dresses are made from the lightest silk jersey and then they are hand beaded in sequins custom made in Paris to match the fabric. This dress is the classic mermaid design, made from silk jersey, which hugs every curve. The fabric has a bit of stretch and the dress will fit a range of sizes. It has a high neckline and long sleeves with a three button cuff at the wrists. There is an invisible zipper at the center back of the dress. It is in excellent condition and was retailed by I. Magnin. The measurements were taken with the dress laying flat and not stretched.
