1960s Doreen Lok Gold and Turquoise Beaded Shift Dress
About the Item
This is the second time we have had an exquisite 1960s gold and turquoise dress in at Circa. This one is a slightly different size and design and although unlabelled, we are attributing it to Doreen Lok. An absolute show-stopper, this ankle length gown features a delicate round collar and straight down silhouette which hugs your curves. Beaded in Hong Kong, a country known for the finest beadwork in the world at that time, this sleeveless concoction is adorned with thousands of vibrant turquoise and glittering gold beads. The beadwork forms floral motifs which trim the high neckline, sleeves, bottom hem and run down the centre of the dress - here, crowned with a gold flower-shaped bead. The chartreuse-gold silk feel lining shines through the delicate metallic lace that creates a golden mesh overlay to the dress and allows the turquoise beads to really pop out to the eye. It fastens at the centre rear with a concealed, tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp.
This level of intricate detail is rarely seen in such flawless vintage condition with no issues to the cloth or the beadwork. No labels remain in the dress so please check our measurements below. The fabric has no stretch and we estimate a best fit for up to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8.
