1960s Gino Charles for Malcolm Starr Green Beaded Collar Dress
About the Item
This striking full length silk blend vintage dress in neon green is by American label Gino Charles for Malcolm Starr and is of superb quality. Made in the late 1960s in Hong Hong, which at the time, was the centre of excellence globally for intricate embellishment work such as this. The dress has prong set rhinestones in green, pink and crystal tones interspersed with gold thread embroidery in a floral design around the yoke neckline and cuffs. It features full length sleeves and is slit at the centre front to the knee with a central zip fastening at the reverse. Inside it is fully lined in a matching green silk satin.
The dress is in good to very good vintage condition overall and presents well. We noted a linear area of colour fade across the top of the right shoulders which extends down the arm to the cuffs; not easily to detect when worn. There is also some puckering of the fabric due to age and wear. A real statement piece for an evening event or summer party, it would best suit up to a US size 2, UK size 6. Our model is a petite UK 6-8 or US 2-4 and this was a tight fit.
