About

This is an exceptional dress. It is Marc Bohan for Christian Dior and it is a stunning example of his work during this time period. The silk chiffon base is a pretty combination of chocolates with subtle pops of a pale blue worked through the design. Woven through the silk is a gold lurex thread that gives the fabric a two dimensional pop and makes it gleam and glitter in the light. That gold thread has been placed deliberately to highlight the lines of the dress and so become an integral part of the overall design. The neckline is a cut into a low square and the fitted bodice is balanced beautifully by long slim sleeves. The skirt is a marvel as it has been constructed around the print of the fabric and the placement of the gold thread. It is set into the waist with a series of pleated folds with the top of each fold covered in gold. The more transparent silk chiffon parts are set inverted in between each gold covered panel. This causes the skirt to present as a gold column of silk when you stand still and then when you move you see the contrast between the fabric where the gold is not placed. It has its original matching belt to cinch in the waist that has a gold horizontal stripe that picks up the same gold stripe used at the hem. It is a beautiful and dramatic piece of vintage couture. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a brown silk with the sleeves left unlined. It closes with a back painted metal & nylon zipper and hook & eye at the neck. Each sleeve has a hidden snaps at the cuff. The belt closes with a combination of hook, grommets and snaps and is stamped Christian Dior on the back. Hand finished
