About

Feast your eyes on this head turner by George Peter Stavropoulos 1920-1990, American, born in Greece. Known for creating ethereal gowns that flowed with movement and for his amazing use of prints.

Gorgeous warm colored chiffon print dress with wonderful sleeves. Sleeves are exaggerated, sheer, flowing raglan sleeves that are extra long with slits for hands. The bodice is fitted to the drop waist where the skirt flares adding fullness. The tie can be used at the waist or neck. Many of his gowns were made entirely by hand, and this one looks like it could also have been created with no machine work.

Stavropolous gowns are quite hard to find as collector's of his work exist across the globe. He had followers such as Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Maria Callas. Lady Bird Johnson's portrait that hangs in the powder room of the White House is taken in one of his gowns. It is said that Barbara Streisand still owns and wears a few of her purchases made during his lifetime. Get it now before it goes!
