1980s Arnold Scaasi Incredible Silk Gown

About

Yards and yards of silk have been used in this Arnold Scassi gown. Scaasi studied under Charles James and you can see that influence heavily in this particular piece. This would have been from his mad to order salon and dates to the late 1970s, early 1980s. The silk used is just incredible - it is a light weight, fine taffeta. The bodice is strapless and gathered to follow and highlight the bodies curves. I love how he has extended this down and past the hips, bringing the line slightly up at the front to trick the eye into seeing a smaller waist and down into a deep point at the back to make the eye travel and give length. The skirt is so dramatic and full - a true ballgown skirt! The inside construction is amazing - the inner skirt is two layers of fine black silk with a broad band of horsehair taping at the bottom hem. Over this is 4 full layers of silk net tulle and the exterior skirt sits over that and is lined in a silk organza. The inside is exquisitely constructed and it is all hand finished and done to couture standards. The ruffle that trails down the front with its shocking pink backing is the perfect final touch to this amazing one of a kind fantasy gown! Excellent, appears unworn condition.

Fully lined in a fine black tissue silk. The bodice is boned and it closes with aback metal zipper. The inner skirts as described above.
