About

A glorious example of Parisian haute couture by the house of Carven, this perfect Winter dress is crafted in black wool, lined in silk and set with hand-embroidered sequins. Featuring a high neck and long billowing sleeves of finest black silk chiffon, the dress details a wonderful Watteau-back with an entirely separate panel that gently trails on the ground to create a seriously glamourous moment for a special event. Worn by Emma Thompson when presenting an Oscar to Angela Lansbury in 2013.

Carmen de Tommaso entered into the world of fashion after her mother informed her she would "never be elegant" standing at only five feet one inch. Reinventing herself as Marie-Louise Carven, the Carven house founder began designing clothing that represented the chic French style, flattering those with a petite figure such as the women of Parisian high society and singer Edith Piaf.
