Early 1920s Fortuny Delphos Gown in Black Silk Glass Beads & Belt AS FOUND

About the Item

Early 1920s Fortuny Delphos Gown in Black Silk, Murano Glass Beads & Gold Stenciled Belt. AS FOUND CONDITION with original labels. Absolutely authentic early Mariano Fortuny gown for study, display or photos. Fortuny was a Spanish polymath, artist, inventor and fashion designer who opened his couture house in 1906 and continued until 1946. His designs are rare and highly sought after. Gown has a flounced neckline, and is made of minutely pleated silk, a process that was seldom duplicated though they tried. The belt is the original gold metallic Greek motif stenciled on a silk fabric. Another trademark feature of Fortuny's designs were the hand-blown Murano glass beads that were sewn along the side seams from under the arms to hem lending a lovely weight a body to the garment. Condition is as found. Silk is split at pleat lines at hem and around ruffled neckline. It is wearable, but delicate. Here's your chance to own a very rare piece of fashion history.
