About

My photos do nothing to convey how special this dress is. It looks so shockingly modern and fresh that it will literally blow you over when you see it in person and realize this date to somewhere in the very very early twenties or late teens! The workmanship is extraordinary - it really and truly is a couture level piece and I would not be surprised to learn that some aficionado spots it for what it really is and it turns out to be a rare Chanel or Lavin or something on that level. The sequin work is amazing and the design has an almost tiger stripe feel to it in the way the sleeves and sides are partially striped. All those sequins have been applied in tight rows and form a beautiful contrast to the silk netting. The elongated triangles run across each sleeve and down each side where they eventually meet and circle the hem of the skirt. The bodice has a sequin overlay that is weighted to hang perfectly. Truly amazing - if you love it in the pictures you will be extraordinarily happy when it arrives. It is strong and would be wearable with care though truly this is also a piece meant fot a collectors and should be considers a true work of art.

Bust: 17" flat across from side seam to side seam

Waist: 14" flat across from side seam to side seam

Hips: approx 19” from side seam to side seam

Bodice: approx 16” from shoulder to waist seam

Skirt: 31” from waist seam to bottom hem

The dress is selflined in the good weight black silk under the exterior layer of silk netting. The bodice is lined in an additional layer of cream tissue silk. There is also a 2 1/2 inch wide band of dressmakers silk grosgrain circling the waist. The closure is at eh back and it quite elaborate with snaps, hook & eye on each layer and following the lines of each layer as they overlap giving the final illusion of having no closures at all. There is perhaps a sequin or two missing here or there but really for the amount of sequin work it is to be considered mint on that front. Hand stitching throughout. The hem is weighted and so is portions of the sequin overlay of the blouse - all insuring that it sits perfectly on. On the very interior lining there is an edge of discoloration under each arm but this of course does not show when worn and the fabric remains strong. I have marked the price accordingly to accommodate for this. I am sure this had to be done by a couture house as it has all the hallmarks of a couture piece of that time and the workmanship is extraordinary! Very beautiful piece! It should be dry cleaned when cleaned again in the future.
