Incredible, and rare 20s B. ALTMAN Haute Couture dress! Completely hand sewn, and hand embroidered/beaded. This beauty is nothing short of exceptional! Lightweight semi sheer cotton voile looks great alone, or with a slip under. Attached beaded 'necktie' at bodice. White seed beads in a gridlock pattern scattered throughout the dress, with colorful seed beads in floral designs intertwined. Honestly, this piece belongs in a museum, but is still totally wearable, with only one small repair to one sleeve, which is unnoticeable. This enchanting 1920s silk chiffon floral print dress is delightfully feminine and in absolutely beautiful condition for a piece of this era. The dress has a scoop neck at both front and reverse , and features cape style sleeves with scalloped edge which float pretty over the upper arms. The peach toned silk chiffon overlay is printed with a floral design in soft blues, reds and ochre. It is fashioned with a dropped waistline atop of a full skirt falling to the ankles in soft folds with an ethereal, bohemian aesthetic. A slip in pale blue silk is sewn into the dress and shows through to complement the delicate shades of the print. Both the slip and the overlay have a run of subtle popper fastenings to the left. A breathtaking museum quality bridal dance dress dating back to the mid-1920's. Two layers are cleverly designed to complement each other; a fine filet-lace outer layer with a foliate design over an ecru silk-crepe slip layer embroidered with pastel silk-ribbon rosettes. The rosettes are positioned under the filet-lace design so that they appear to be the blooms of the foliate in the lace! The overall effect is quite spectacular, and the dress has survived beautifully over the years. A small designer label in the interior reading "Weathered Misses Shop Chicago", which was the one shop in Chicago able to import French couture. The original owner of the garment said the shop was able to do this by selecting the couture designs overseas. After making their selections, the patterns and materials would be shipped over for fabrication in their own workrooms, allowed them to sidestep the hefty import tax on already completed couture models. The design and construction are identity to Callot Soeurs aesthetic who was known for working with wealth American clients. A rare piece of ethereal fashion history that will become a favorite in your collection.
