Breathtaking mid-1920's French couture museum-quality beaded & jeweled metallic lamé evening trained dress. The dramatic gold color palette touches a deep chord in our collective aesthetic consciousness. As fashion lovers, we never tire from antique metallics; they will always be fresh to modern eyes. It is in wonderful wearable condition; something that is becoming a rarity as time goes by. The gold fabric is even more amazing when you realize it is all hand-beaded in the much gorgeous turquoise and creme leaf motif. The prong-set jewels add another degree of charm that is irresistible. I adore the fringed cut-out shoulders and three-dimensional floral side applique. The attached duel-trains really set this garment apart of others during the period. This is one of the best 1920's pieces I have ever seen and I would not be surprised to learn that it was custom made from one of the top haute-couture Paris...

Incredible, and rare 20s B. ALTMAN Haute Couture dress! Completely hand sewn, and hand embroidered/beaded. This beauty is nothing short of exceptional! Lightweight semi sheer cotton voile looks great alone, or with a slip under. Attached beaded 'necktie' at bodice. White seed beads in a gridlock pattern scattered throughout the dress, with colorful seed beads in floral designs intertwined. Honestly, this piece belongs in a museum, but is still totally wearable, with only one small repair to one sleeve, which is unnoticeable. A breathtaking museum quality bridal dance dress dating back to the mid-1920's. Two layers are cleverly designed to complement each other; a fine filet-lace outer layer with a foliate design over an ecru silk-crepe slip layer embroidered with pastel silk-ribbon rosettes. The rosettes are positioned under the filet-lace design so that they appear to be the blooms of the foliate in the lace! The overall effect is quite spectacular, and the dress has survived beautifully over the years. A small designer label in the interior reading "Weathered Misses Shop Chicago", which was the one shop in Chicago able to import French couture. The original owner of the garment said the shop was able to do this by selecting the couture designs overseas. After making their selections, the patterns and materials would be shipped over for fabrication in their own workrooms, allowed them to sidestep the hefty import tax on already completed couture models. The design and construction are identity to Callot Soeurs aesthetic who was known for working with wealth American clients.
