Incredibly Rare & Iconic Tom Ford For YSL Rive Gauche Spring Summer 2002 Brown Silk Safari Collection Runway Jacket & Skirt Suit! Gorgeous jacket & skirt suit from Tom Ford's acclaimed Spring/Summer 2002 Safari/Mombasa Runway Collection for YSL Rive Gauche. This extremely rare & unique suit has only been worn a handful of times & is in very good condition throughout with only minimal signs of wear... an absolute must for Any Ford lover or collector. We've been international collectors of Tom Ford for Gucci & YSL since 2005, buying primarily for ourselves & wholesaling to a number of collectors & re-sellers throughout the U.S & Europe. Over the years, our collection has evolved into one of the largest & most impressive in the world, & now, after more than a decade spent searching for & finding many of the rarest & most sought after Ford pieces from around the world, we've decided to turn our passion into a retail business. However, as early Tom Ford pieces are rapidly becoming virtually impossible to find, & this particularly applying to the more sought after pieces, & as the vast majority of our pieces are rare one-offs which have taken us almost a decade to collect, as each of our items are sold, they will understandably not be replaced... TOM FORD - Tom Ford joined Gucci back in 1990 & was appointed as creative director of the fashion house in 1994. His first runway collection for Gucci, in 1995, was met with rave reviews, & he was catapulted into icon status the following year, when his Fall/Winter 1996 collection received huge international acclaim, enthralling critics & public alike & changing the face of fashion overnight. A whirlwind of successes followed over the next few years, culminating in Gucci taking over the house of Yves Saint Laurent in 1999 & appointing Ford as Creative Director & head designer of the house's YSL Rive Gauche collection. Ford's Midas touch continued at YSL, with one after another of his collections receiving critical acclaim. It began to look as if Tom Ford & the house of Gucci could truly do no wrong... until, in late 2003 the fashion industry was rocked by the news that Tom & Gucci had disagreed over creative control & that the two would be parting ways. In a press release of the time, a Gucci spokesperson was famously quoted as saying that "the label was bigger than the man". Tom's swansongs for the houses of Gucci & Yves Saint Laurent, in Fall/Winter 2004, would again be proclaimed masterpieces & Tom Ford runway pieces from both houses would become instant collector's items, fetching huge sums at auctions worldwide. Sadly, it would be another seven long years before the women's fashion industry would again be touched by Tom's genius, when in one of the most highly anticipated fashion events of all time, in Fall/Winter 2011 Tom Ford held a "by invitation only" private launch of the very first collection from his own label. Today, Tom's star continued to shine as brightly as ever, with Tom Ford products turning over in excess of one billion dollars in 2014 alone, &, as early pieces from his Gucci & Yves Saint Laurent days get increasingly rarer, they've become more collectable than ever...

No one understands sex appeal quite like American designer Tom Ford.

An avowed perfectionist from an early age, Ford was rearranging furniture at the age of six and offering his mother advice on her hair and shoes. The designer, author, film director and chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is one of the most successful people working in fashion today.

Born in Austin, Texas, Ford grew up in the suburbs of Houston and Santa Fe, New Mexico. He briefly attended New York University, where he studied art history before dropping out to pursue acting. He became a regular at Studio 54, with its decadent nightlife later informing his high-octane fashion. He studied architecture at Parsons School of Design before shifting his focus to fashion and spending time at the Parsons Paris campus, graduating in 1985. The rest of the decade he worked for designers Perry Ellis and Cathy Hardwick. In 1990, Gucci’s creative director Dawn Mello hired him as a womens-wear designer.

At the time, the Italian label was better known for leather goods than luxury fashion. It was also nearly bankrupt. After Mello left in 1994, following a Bahrain-based investment group becoming Gucci’s majority shareholder, Ford was named creative director. He soon infused the brand with a fresh sensuality and bold style. His fall 1995 show, in which Kate Moss walked down the runway in an unbuttoned satin shirt, velvet hip-huggers and tousled hair, heralded an exciting, glammed-up era for the once fusty brand. Vogue critic Sarah Mower called it “one of those hitting-in-the-solar-plexus moments.”

As Ford shot to fame, he continued to explore plunging necklines, such as in the black and white looks of the Fall 1996 collection, and sumptuous fabrics like leather and tweed, with the Fall 2000 ready-to-wear collection ranging from sultry silk evening dresses to plush belted coats. He also cranked up the seduction in the provocative ads for the fashion house, particularly with regard to campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, which Gucci acquired in 1999 (Ford was also named creative director for YSL and designed the brand’s ready-to-wear collection). Gucci's Fall/Winter 1997 campaign featured Carolyn Murphy grasping Angela Lindvall in what looked like a video still; in another shot, a face pressed against a foot in a lipstick-red heel. Each promoted a vision of modern fashion where women were sexually confident, the materials were luxurious and the styles were fearless.

In 2004, Ford and Gucci president Domenico De Sole left the company after failing to agree on the renewal of their contracts. In 2006, with De Sole as chairman, Ford launched his wildly successful eponymous menswear label. The brand has expanded into womens wear, beauty, accessories — vintage Tom Ford handbags are universally adored by celebrities and collectors alike — as well as eyewear and fragrance, with the unisex Black Orchid introduced in 2006. Ford broke into film directing with the critically acclaimed A Single Man in 2009 and Nocturnal Animals in 2016, continuing to blur the boundaries between fashion and culture.
