1950s Lanvin Castillo Haute Couture Watercolor Floral Silk Print Full-Skirt Gown

About the Item

An exceptionally rare and highly coveted Jeanne Lanvin Castillo haute couture watercolor floral gown dating back to the early 1950's. According to two fashion experts, this designer label with the red 'Paris' was used from 1945 through 1954. Castillo was invited by Jeanne Lanvin's daughter to design for her mother's firm in Paris, with hopes of relaunching the firm's name. Jeanne Lanvin, the founder of the house, had died in 1946 and the salon needed someone to maintain it's traditions. From 1950 to 1962 the House of Lanvin-Castillo was known for elegant clothes and flattering silhouettes. This captivating look is fashioned in the highest quality watercolor floral garden print light-weight silk in shades of yellow, green, purple and red. The bodice has an alluring wide slight off-shoulder design which tapers into an hourglass nipped waist. I adore the matching wide fringed sash belt which is mid-century glamour at its finest. The dramatic pleated full skirting is a pure work of art and a study in dressmaking technique. This incredibly special haute couture gown would make a stunning Met Gala or wedding guest look. Measurements Bust: 35-36 inches Waist: 26 inches Hips: Free Sweep Total Length: 56 inches This stunning Lanvin haute couture gown is in beautiful condition with no rips, holes or stains. The inside is immaculate and all hand-finished. Perfectly working back Éclair French metal-zipper. Shown with a petticoat under which is not included. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
