Vintage 1950's Worth Couture Shocking Pink Floral Print Silk Shawl-Collar Dress

About the Item

This gorgeous House of Worth haute couture cocktail ensemble, dating back to the early 1950-52 time period, is in a class of its own. The House of Worth was an elite French house of high fashion that specializes in gorgeous custom clothing. The historic house was founded in 1858 by English designer Charles Frederick Worth. The house remained successful under Worth's descendants but faced increasing competition until finally closing in 1956. This is a rare chance to own a designer couture two-piece dress made before this iconic house shut their doors forever. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; high-quality mid weight silk in a vibrant shocking magenta pink and black abstract garden motif. The bodice has a stunning scoop neck plunge with sculpted short sleeves and over-sized detachable portrait shawl-collar. Two chic looks in one outfit. This figure flattering garment accentuates the bust, nips in at the waistline and skims the hips in such an elegant way. My favorite detail is the slightly pleated back fishtail design. The architectural shape really allows one to appreciate the brilliant texture. A rare piece of French fashion history in beautiful museum quality. Measurements Bust: 34-35 inches Waist: 26 inches Hips: 38 inches Total Length: 42 inches This House of Worth haute couture cocktail dress ensemble in excellent wearable condition with no stains, rips or holes. The inside is immaculate and hand-finished. Perfectly working back hand-set metal Eclair zipper. The level of work in this piece would only be found in the highest couture of today.

  • Vintage 1970 Mainbocher Couture Vogue Documented Hot Pink Flocked Silk Dress
    By Mainbocher
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Gorgeous Mainbocher couture shocking pink abstract floral dress dating back to his 1970 collection. As shown, this design was modeled by Loulou de la Falaise for Vogue magazine. Mainbocher was a well-respected couturier who operated fashion houses in Paris and later New York from the 1930's through the 1970's. Mainbocher's arrival in New York coincided perfectly with the city élite's love for French couture, for though he epitomized it, he satisfied their patriotism because he was actually an American. The integrity of luxurious fabrics, intricate cut, quality workmanship were cherished by Mainbocher's upper crust customers. This mid 1960's dress is a perfect example of his genius. The fabric is a lush mid-weight velvet flocked silk satin. The 3/4-length sleeve buttons down bodice really compliments the classic nipped-waist silhouette. The dress can even be worn as a dramatic jacket if you choose to leave it unbuttoned. You get the effect of elegance and edgy at the same time. I love the sculpted mermaid skirting which really moves beautifully when worn. As Mainbocher once said "I have never known a really chic...
