This enchanting 1920s silk chiffon floral print dress is delightfully feminine and in absolutely beautiful condition for a piece of this era. The dress has a scoop neck at both front and reverse , and features cape style sleeves with scalloped edge which float pretty over the upper arms. The peach toned silk chiffon overlay is printed with a floral design in soft blues, reds and ochre. It is fashioned with a dropped waistline atop of a full skirt falling to the ankles in soft folds with an ethereal, bohemian aesthetic. A slip in pale blue silk is sewn into the dress and shows through to complement the delicate shades of the print. Both the slip and the overlay have a run of subtle popper fastenings to the left. The House of Adair was a Parisian atelier that created beaded silk gowns for the export market during the 1920s. They were retailed in the best department stores of the day, especially in the US and UK. The designs were inspired by haute couture fashions and popular themes including orientalism and the geometric forms of the Art Deco movement. The workers has all been trained in haute couture methods and rare surviving pieces are often acquired by museums and fashion institutions including Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This dress has a sleeveless, blouson top style v-neck and is fashioned with a lightly gathered drop-waist. This fluid, tubular tailoring was typical of the must-have dresses of this era and the silk crepe is adorned with brightly beaded flowers, among them sunflowers, thistles and gerberas. Stunning and sumptuous is the only way to describe this amazingly beautiful late 1930's rich velvet opera coat. This beauty is made from a super soft silk velvet blend with a cotton blend lining. It is slightly cinched in at the waist with ruching at the hip, it has raised ruched shoulders and shoulder pads, the jacket fastens with two large velvet covered buttons at the waist and it is collarless. Late 1930s we can see elements of the 1940s style coming into play with the more fitted waist and large shoulders.
