It has a colourful, almost pop art floral print in pink, red, purple, green and white tones against a chestnut brown background. The top is a very typical tunic style from the eponymous designer with a wide boat neck and a gathered puff short sleeve. Over the years he created many version of this top for both his Rive Gauche and Haute Couture collections. The high low skirt is much shorter at the front and cascades down to full length at the back. Encompassing his appeal for international inspiration, YSL blended Eurasian styles with his usual bright color combinations during the Fall/Winter 1989 collection. Mr. Saint Laurent's ability to make globally inspired designs by melding several aesthetics into one beautifully articulated garment is a hallmark of the renowned designer. From the 1989 collection, this ensemble is done in a beautifully detailed silk brocade fabric creating a motif of whimsical butterflies and florals in vibrant colors of orange, yellow-green and cerise on a ground of a serene ocean blue. Lurex threads throughout give this ensemble an added majestic feel. The jacket is constructed in a classic 80s style with squared shoulders and a tapered sleeve. It is tailored nicely though the bodice and gives a nipped waist that is accented by a voluminous peplum that is attached on a slight angle which adds interest to the silhouette and allows for a more flattering fit. A totally iconic and absolutely stunning Andre Courreges Paris ensemble dating back to his 1967 couture collection. Andre Courreges launched his Space-Age look in 1964. The shapes of his clothes were geometric: squares, trapezoids, triangles. The main features of his ultra-modern, uncluttered look spread quickly throughout the fashion world, especially the miniskirt, which he introduced to France. This archival yellow and ivory-white checkered wool two-piece is a fantastic example of his vision. The fitted jacket has a flirty low-cut plunge and bold waist belt. My favorite part is the over-sized breast pockets which is a signature Courreges touch. The high waisted a-line mod skirt is a statement piece in it's own right; definitely flattering the figure.
