A/W 1985 Kansai Yamamoto Vintage Avant Garde Unisex Tweed Suit

About the Item

An incredible and avant garde vintage men's or women's suit by genius Japanese designer, Kansai Yamamoto, who was also David Bowie's favourite designer and was known for his pioneering and daring designs, mixing Japanese and Western fashion. This suit embodies that spirit perfectly, the trousers are high waisted with a flared leg that tightens at the cuff with clever darts - showing a western twist on Japanese design. The matching jacket has wide shoulders and an oversized fit which give an edgy high fashion look, with layers of tweed, velvet and houndstooth wool fabric that are more often found in English heritage garments, showing Kansai's versatility and ingenuity. This suit is incredibly rare from the A/W 1985 collection, with only 69 ever being made. Even though this is probably a men's suit, as with most of Kansai's designs, it can easily be worn by either sex due to the oversized fit and androgynous style. Indeed a jacket very similar to this was shown on a female model in the 1985 runway show and the trousers were seen on a man stood next to her. This piece is truly important to collector's of both Kansai Yamamoto and Japanese design in general but is also so wearable today, for a dramatic, unexpected look. Size: Jacket says men's Medium with 28" Trousers but since the jacket is oversized it can be worn by smaller sizes. Please check measurements.
