Dorette of California Pin Up Sun Swim Suit, 1940s

About the Item

Pin up girl perfection! This 1940's Dorette of California swim suit is loaded with charm. The two piece set is designed in a white faille knit style fabric accented with a scalloped floral cotton trim incorporating sunny shades of yellow, green, blue and red. The halter top ties at the neck and back and the button front skirted bottom features attached undies with a partial elasticized leg. The waistband is a highrise and covers the belly button which was the appropriate look for the era and lends the ensemble a comfortable sun-suit style perfect for a day romping on the beach. Please note: I would not really recommend swimming in this suit as the fabric stays very wet rather than drying quickly like modern swimwear. CONDITION Though it is in amazing condition considering the age, there are a few age related flaws including a couple of rust spots shown in photographs 11, 12 and 14. In spite of the spots, the overall appearance of the suit is bright, crisp and clean. There are also a couple of weak spots in the fabric at seams ... one on the top shown in photograph 12 and one to the right of a button hole shown in photograph 13. These are camouflaged by the lining and the one at the button hole is covered when buttoned. There is also a replaced button though it appears to be an early replacement from the same era and is not that noticeable. Sounds like a laundry list but it is really an adorable set and you will look so cute nobody will notice. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS The size is not marked though the suit best fits a size 2. The top is adjustable and fairly generous (best for 32-34 with cup size B) but the bottoms are intended for narrow hips. The following measurements are provided as a guideline. TOP The cups measure 18" across x 7" high inclusive of trim. BOTTOM Waist 24" Hips 31" Just Below Waist And Fans Out For Fuller Measurements Length From Waist to Hem 14.5"
