Italy Venice
Beautiful Baroque hanging in cream silk satin applied and embroidered à la Grotesque with flowered cups and draped architectural elements of extreme refinement. Collected in Venice and dating from the early 18th century. Formerly bed slopes, Bonne Grace, gathered and sewn in the middle. Polychrome floche silk embroidery in needle painting with shades of colour treated in gradation. Note several period gouges to the silk and composite lining of cream silk and linen. The colours are fresh and preserved despite the structural fragility of the silk. Good general condition considering its age.
