This iconic steamer trunk dates to the early 1900s and is made from Vuitton's monogram canvas (handwoven, which is typical of trunks made prior to 1905), leather trim and brass hardware & handles. The interior is lined in cream fabric and features a ribbon and pin on the top lid, with several LV stamped straps for securing one's items inside the main compartment. The trunk fastens with three brass latches - with the center latch featuring a keyhole underneath (but sadly no key). The bottom is made from a dark material and has wheels - and there is one brass handle on each side. You can see faint signs of the original owner's name on each side - but the name is heavily faded. This incredible piece is substantial and measures 40"L x 21.5"H x 20"D, making it perfect for use as a coffee table or for storing linens beside your bed. As you might imagine for a trunk that is more than 100 years old, this trunk is not perfect, but I think it's blemishes only add to the overall look and charm. The woven monogram canvas shows fading, and on a section of the right side, the canvas has long peeled away (see image 4, which shows up as a dark spot across the bottom right of the screen). The leather trim, wood trim and brass all have a dark patina - and there are several chips and cracks to the trim leather, with an appx 1.5" ding to the rear left corner edge (see image 3, where you can see the dig on the left side, center). The original leather strap that secured the trunk in the center is long gone, but a remnant remains in the bottom front. Inside, there is discoloration and several of the ribbons on the top have become unsecured from their pins. There are no storage trays, only the attached straps at the trunk bottom. The trunk wheels easily, but to avoid scratching a floor, a previous owner lightly tacked two strips of carpet to the bottom (see images 9 & 10, where I have pulled away the carpet strip to show how easy they can be removed). All in all, this is an incredible piece of fashion history - which should last another 100 years with proper love and care! Tagged I. RUE SCRIBE PARIS LOUIS VUITTON 149 NEW BOND ST LONDON with two numbers 107555 and 107559. Please note that this piece weighs 70lbs.
