19th Century Thai Bronze Buddha with Patinated Gold Surface
About the Item
This quietly stunning Buddha was realized in Thailand during the 19th century. It represents an exceptionally fine example of the period. The Buddha wears a long flowing robe. His Ushnisha- or crown of hair- consists of an abundance of small raised knots on his head- a design element that is repeated in the adornments on the stepped base that supports the figure. The Buddha, with a serene expression on his face, stands upright with one hand extended outwards, his palm parallel with body and his fingers pointed skyward. The bronze sculpture has a beautiful and even all-over patina in 24 karat gold. This is a beautiful Buddha- perfect for any collector of Asian antiquities, or for someone looking for an exquisite object to decorate their home. Excellent vintage condition.
