Pair of Japanese High Quality Chôshi 銚子 'Sake Ewers', Signed 'Sei’ô' 晴王
About the Item
Pair of high quality cast iron chôshi (sake ewers) with a detailed lacquered lid. Its body with a refined embossed design of a bird of prey (môchô) perched on a stand and on the reverse a stylized pine tree (matsu).
The black lacquered lids with golden hiramaki-e (low-relief lacquer design): one with a crane (tsuru) flying above a plum blossom tree (ume), the other with a pair of cranes flying above a pine tree. Both lids with a white metal knob.
The spout with a white metal lining, and the loop handles decorated with a subtle embossed karakusa (scrolling foliage) design. Both standing on three low feet.
The body is signed 'Image of Sei’ô’ (Sei'ô ga).
Including original wooden tomobako (storage box).
