18th C. Chinese Dish or Plate Porcelain Blue & White Hand Painted Hunting Scene

About the Item

This is a very beautifully hand painted Chinese porcelain blue and white Dish or Plate from the 18th Century Qing Dynasty, possibly back to the Kangxi period ( 1662-1722). This is a well potted dish with a very neatly cut foot rim and a white glaze having a blue tinge. The plate is well hand painted, front and back, in a free flowing style, characteristic of the period, in varying shades of a clear cobalt blue, from the very dark to the very light blue. The central well is hand decorated with an iconic outdoor hunting scene of three hunters on horseback in a mountainous setting by rocks with trees. The hunters are chasing a deer. The outer cavetto has 6 medallions with individual floral designs, within a geometric border. The level of detail is very good. The rear is also hand painted with two house scenes between two hills around the base rim. The central base has two concentric blue rings to the centre, having a carefully hand painted Shell motif which signifies a "prosperous journey or voyage", typically only found on fine porcelain as with this piece. Overall, a beautiful, finely hand painted, Blue and White Dish / Plate, which we date to the mid 18th Century.
