Chinese Chien Lung Period Galleried Tray with English Sterling Silver Handles

About the Item

Chinese Chien lung period porcelain galleried tray with dated English sterling silver handles. This 18th century porcelain hand painted tray has delicate flowers and fruits in overglaze enamels including famille rose and highlighted with gold. The underglaze blue that edges the gallery of the tray has gold stars hand painted along the edge and this motif is echoed at the interior edge of the tray with a border of tiny underglaze blue dots that are almost star like; each cluster having a central gold dot. This unusual tray had English sterling silver handles affixed to it when it arrived in London. The handles are marked with the London Assay Office and dated 1784. It does not appear that they have ever been polished, so we have left them with their deep patinated surface.
