His grandfather started as a porcelain artist 140 years ago faithfully protecting the characteristics of traditional Kutani fine porcelain. The creator of this piece, the third generation artist, continues to keep this tradition alive and is among a very small number of Kutani porcelain artists who still create traditional Kutani pieces. Traditional Kutani porcelain called Kutani Ware has a history of over 360 years. The spirit of Kutani ware emerges as highly skilled craftsmen draw hairline images on white porcelain, which are tempered with heavily applied ornamental glazes. These glazes, when fired in the kiln, are converted into five colors of enamel, green, yellow, blue, purple and red. When they are combined with the bold designs and free-flawing drawings, elaborately worked pieces are created. This stunning piece depicts two large and two small scalloped panels with flower and bird motifs on white background.
