Hand-Painted Japanese Stoneware Bowl by Morioka Kasho III, Circa 1970

About the Item

This is a very decorative stoneware drinking bowl , all hand made and hand painted , which we attribute to the work of MORIOKA KASHO 111, Japan, Circa 1970 The bowl is circular and well hand hand potted on a low foot, three section cut-away foot. The bowl has two drinking spots formed in the rim on opposite sides. This bowl is beautifully hand decorated inside and outside. Inside the bowl are three roundels with very well hand painted cobalt blue ( blue and white) scenes all within double circles , much like the hand painting on Chinese ceramics. Two of the scenes are landscape views , one with a sage on a mountain top. This figural scene roundel connects with a third roundel with a swastika image. All three roundels are hand painted against a speckled light blue glaze, with the rim having a hand painted rim edge. On the outside is a dripping thick blue glaze of a beautiful colour, all carefully hand painted. The base of the bowl has a three section cut-away area, which is most unusual with the base also having an off centre, three character mark, hand- scribed into the stone. Overall a very interesting bowl, from the studio of MORIOKA KASHO 111.
