About the Item

Japan, an antique handmade, hand-painted one-of-a-kind ceramic lidded Soy Dispenser -- thick stone ware vessel over glazed in a pretty blue green and white palette. It is was crafted from unique Japanese clay called choseki (long life clay). Substantial dimensions: 23 inches tall and 16.5 inches diameter Gorgeous blue green colors and hand applied glazing on the outside. Appropriate for indoor or outdoor use for water or other liquids, or simply a stand alone attractive work of art.. Good choice for garden, deck, sun room, or special interior space. Taisho period 1912-1926 Handcrafted. Hand glazed. Only one. History: Shigaraki, one of Japan’s six fabled pottery and ceramics centers in Shiga Prefecture, possesses a rich history. In the Kamakura era (1192-1333) water and seed jars were crafted. In Muromachi and Edo periods (1333-1868) its’ tea wares and sake bottles were reknowned. Wood fired in “nobori gama” climbing kilns, their ceramics’ natural ash glazes produce startling textures and patterns. Indeed Shigaraki clays contain ‘choseki’ or white stone which means long life!.
