Contemporary Japanese decorative porcelain vase, hand-painted in vibrant orange and black on a stunning globular shaped porcelain body, a masterpiece from an exclusive collection of highly collectible pieces by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist and recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and unique gold and platinum work on porcelain. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. This old elaborate technique combines different elements of extremely intricate painting that showcases a dense mosaic of extremely intricate maple leaf and honey comb patterns in orange and gold with a deep purple and orange faintly revealing underneath, with extremely intricate patterns created by finely drawn lines of gold and produces a mesmerizing dream-like illusion of a “transparent” canvas on which beautiful deer faintly appear strolling, with their prominent black horns creating a striking contrast. To add to the elegance of the whole piece, the base and neck are decorated in a rich palette of deep purple and black, enhanced by the generous use of gold. This hand-painted vase features deer in gold with extraordinary details Maple leaf and honey comb patterns in vibrant orange and gold with a deep purple and orange faintly revealing underneath, strolling above this mesmerizing vase. It celebrates the arrival of the autumn by pairing "Deer and maple leaves", an auspicious motif often symbolically appearing in different forms of Japanese art. The pattern continues all the way down to the back side of this exquisite piece, with the artist’s sign appearing in the middle. The entire reverse side of the vase is decorated with an extremely intricate pattern finely painted in vivid red and gold, surrounding the artist's signature. It creates a beautiful palette with layers of transparent colors and depth that are flawlessly organic and make the viewer wonder about the sequence of the artist’s work on this piece. The technique involves numerous challenges at different stages of painting as well as firing. For this reason and the enormous amount of time needed to create one piece, this technique is rarely used by today’s porcelain artists. The artist’s profile is available upon request. "Fired-on gold,” the artist's signature pattern highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals.
