Japanese Porcelain Boy with Elephant Figure

About the Item

A delightful Japanese attributed porcelain figure of a resting elephant with a young boy dating from the early 20th century. The hollow molded figure portrays a sleeping elephant, lying on its legs with its trunk curled up with a young boy sitting on its shoulder grasping one ear and leaning over. The elephant is predominantly decorated in white glazes with colour to its tusks and ears and with black painted eyes. The boy is hand painted wearing a short sleeve shirt, shorts and shoes. The figure has an unglazed base and is not marked. Provenance: Acquired from the British Art Market, from a collection of blanc de chine figures. In good condition.
