About

This is a very nice quality Japanese porcelain deep plate or bowl with an Imari pattern, dating to the mid-late 19th century, Meiji period, circa 1870. The plate is hand decorated in varying shades of under-glaze cobalt blue, then hand enamelled with blue, red, burnt orange, green, yellow and salmon colors with additional gilded detail. The pattern depicts a central stylized floral design, surrounded by six alternating panels of bird scenes, with an outer border design. The pattern is very well painted and gilded. The reverse is hand decorated with a continuous floral sprig in cobalt blue with additional blue circles. There is a red and gold square seal mark to the base. No damage or restoration.
